چکیده

In this paper we give an analysis of a bubble stabilized discontinuous Galerkin method (BSDG) for elliptic and parabolic problems. The method consists of stabilizing the numerical scheme by enriching the discontinuous finite element space elementwise by quadratic non-conforming bubbles. This approach leads to optimal convergence in the space and time discretization parameters. Moreover the divergence of the diffusive fluxes converges in the L-norm independently of the geometry of the domain.

Adaptive Discontinuous Galerkin Methods for Fourth Order Problems

This work is concerned with the derivation of adaptive methods for discontinuous Galerkin approximations of linear fourth order elliptic and parabolic partial differential equations. Adaptive methods are usually based on a posteriori error estimates. To this end, a new residual-based a posteriori error estimator for discontinuous Galerkin approximations to the biharmonic equation with essential...

A posteriori error bounds for discontinuous Galerkin methods for quasilinear parabolic problems

We derive a posteriori error bounds for a quasilinear parabolic problem, which is approximated by the hp-version interior penalty discontinuous Galerkin method (IPDG). The error is measured in the energy norm. The theory is developed for the semidiscrete case for simplicity, allowing to focus on the challenges of a posteriori error control of IPDG space-discretizations of strictly monotone quas...

Symmetric and Non-symmetric Discontinuous Galerkin Methods Stabilized Using Bubble Enrichment

In this Note we prove that in two and three space dimensions, the symmetric and non-symmetric discontinuous Galerkin method for second order elliptic problems is stable when using piecewise linear elements enriched with quadratic bubbles without any penalization of the interelement jumps. The method yields optimal convergence rates in both the broken energy norm and, in the symmetric case, the ...

A Posteriori Error Control for Discontinuous Galerkin Methods for Parabolic Problems

We derive energy-norm a posteriori error bounds for an Euler timestepping method combined with various spatial discontinuous Galerkin schemes for linear parabolic problems. For accessibility, we address first the spatially semidiscrete case, and then move to the fully discrete scheme by introducing the implicit Euler timestepping. All results are presented in an abstract setting and then illust...

Accuracy of High Order and Spectral Methods for Hyperbolic Conservation Laws with Discontinuous Solutions

Higher order and spectral methods have been used with success for elliptic and parabolic initial and boundary value problems with smooth solutions. On the other hand, higher order methods have been applied to hyperbolic problems with less success, as higher order approximations of discontinuous solutions suffer from the Gibbs phenomenon. We extend past work and show that spectral methods yield ...
